STUDENT ANNOUNCEMENTS - FEBRUARY 19, 2026

Stuff You Need to Know

Good Thursday morning. Did you know that the very first Black woman to serve as a senator represented the state we live in? It’s true. Carol Moseley Braun was born in Chicago, Illinois and worked as an attorney. She challenged Richard Williamson for the Illinois senate seat in the 1992 election and won, making history as the first Black woman to serve as a senator from 1993 to 1998. Even though she ran for reelection, she would lose to Republican Peter Fitzgerald. Carol Moseley Braun can still be seen around her hometown of Chicago speaking at public events and fighting for the rights of people who need help in the community. This has been your Black History fact for February 19, 2026. Remember, Black History is American History.

Good morning, Spartans! This is a message from the International Club. In honor of Chinese New Year, we hid many red envelopes around the school. The student who returns the most to Mr. Yerian in room 357 by 3:05 p.m. Friday will receive a gift card. Good luck!
