Stuff You Need to Know
Congratulations to the OLCHS Boy Bowling Team who participated in the State Finals this past weekend and finished 10th place in State! This was our best finish at State since the 2013 team that finished in 5th place. Senior Charlie Dell was rolling well all weekend (pun intended) and finished tied for 10th place as an individual. He is an All-State medalist. This makes Charlie Oak Lawn’s 3rd All-State bowler and our first since 2015. Congratulations to Charlie Dell, Justin Canvin, David Bush, Vinny McBrien, Peter Garcia, Zach Shane, Decimus Pecina, Ethan Aguinaga, Coach Neubauer, and Coach Walery on a historic season. We are so proud of them all! Great work Spartans. #SpartanPride
Good Wednesday morning. Did you know that as many as three Nobel Prizes in medicine were awarded because of the research of cells belonging to a Black woman? The cells belonged to a woman by the name of Henrietta Lacks. A mother of five children, Henrietta Lacks died at the very young age of 31, never knowing that she would leave an extraordinary legacy in the field of medicine. Doctors at Johns Hopkins University treated Henrietta Lacks for cancer but found that her cells behaved differently than the cells of others. Her cells, called HeLa cells, were studied without her permission and have been credited with helping to create the first polio vaccine, as well as countless research on cancer. Although dying at a young age, Henrietta Lacks lives on through the research of medicine around the world. This has been your Black History fact for February 4, 2026. Remember, Black History is American History!
