For the boys bowling team at Oak Lawn Community High School, this has been the year of years. The Spartans collected their fifth consecutive South Suburban Conference Red championship. Then, they won the Illinois High School Association Regional championship. And over the weekend, they finished fourth at the IHSA Sectional meet to qualify for the State Finals in O’Fallon, Ill., coming up this weekend.
On Friday at the sectional, the Spartans battled back and forth with Morton, Reavis, and Lyons Township to earn the Top Four spot and advance. Oak Lawn’s Justin Canvin finished in sixth place, and Zach Shane finished ninth.
The team leaves Oak Lawn on Thursday and will compete in Round 1 of the state finals on Friday with Round 2 slated to take place Saturday.
The Spartans will look to make this one unforgettable year.
