OLCHS ANNOUNCES FALL SPORTS AWARD RECIPIENTS

This fall the football program at Oak Lawn Community High School made headlines from its opening game to its Illinois High School Association playoff game on Halloween night. It ended a postseason drought and sparked high hopes for the future. Other individuals also excelled across the sports landscape in Spartan Country.

 

Here is a look at the Fall Sports Award winners at OLCHS.

 

In Football, the Spartans finished the year with a record of 7-3 and had seven players selected South Suburban Conference Red all-conference team. They were Alex Soto, Jayden Schlosser, Kamari Polk, Danny Strelow, Alberto Silva, Isaac Gibson, and Luke Mahoney. The team Most Valuable Players were Schlosser and Soto, while Hendryx Goetz and Jesse Peredes shared the Sportsmanship Award.

 

In Volleyball, Maryam Hussein broke the Oak Lawn career kills record, and Kasey Thompson surpassed the 1,000-assist mark for a career, and both were all-conference selections. Hussein was selected as the SSC Red Player of the Year and was named the team’s MVP. Thompson earned the Sportsmanship Award.

 

In Girls Tennis, the Spartans finished second in conference, head coach Dan Doyle was named SSC Coach of the Year, and the Spartans were selected for the SSC Red Sportsmanship Award. All-conference selections were the duos of Reehan Aldeek and Nathalia Navarro (first place at third doubles) and Haley Meskill and Ghofran Ouarerhni (second place at first doubles). The team’s MVP was Meskill, and Ouarerhni was the Sportsmanship Award winner.

 

In Girls Swim and Dive, Luna Garcia was the Team’s MVP, and Maggie Kapusciak was the Sportsmanship Award winner.

 

In Boys Cross Country, Jose Romero was an IHSA Sectional Qualifier, and he was the team’s MVP. Aidan Viteri was the Sportsmanship Award winner, and Charles Levora earned all-conference honors by finishing tenth at the SSC Red meet.

 

In Girls Cross Country, Munya Yasin was picked as the team’s MVP, and Valentina Villareal won the Sportsmanship Award.

 

In Boys Golf, Charlie Dell was the team MVP, and Josh McGlynn got the Sportsmanship Award. Dell (sixth place) and Jack Dempsey (fifth place) were all-conference.

 

In Girls Golf, Clark Zylius and Zoe Lepe qualified for the IHSA Sectional meet. Zylius was the team’s MVP, and Rose LaFrancis was the Sportsmanship Award winner.

 

In Girls Flag Football, Kamya Feigl and Journey Jackson shared team MVP honors, while Grace Anderson and Evelyn Strelow shared team Sportsmanship Awards. Abby Rybicki and Jackson were all-conference selections. The team also earned the SSC Red Team Sportsmanship Award.

 

In Boys Soccer, David Haberny was selected as the team’s MVP. Edgar Prudencio won the Sportsmanship Award. All-conference selections were Haberny, Jacob Ruiz, Julia Oyoque, and Josemy Neri-Martinez. The Junior Varsity team won the SSC Red Championship.
