Oak Lawn Community High School junior Aiden Alarcon attended the Invest for Kids Summer Investment Camp at DePaul University in Lincoln Park. The five-day, overnight summer camp, sponsored by different partner companies, is a college immersion experience free of charge for students interested in careers in finance. The curriculum included experiential learning seminars in financial markets, asset, financial instruments, valuation principles, and financial theory; company visits and industry professionals as guest speakers; and workshops in Excel, Bloomberg terminals, and data analysis.
Aiden and his team created a pitch stick proposal and presented it to a panel of professionals. Aiden’s team won first place! Aidan said, “A key takeaway was being able to see what a day-to-day life looks like for the people in these jobs.”
