Oak Lawn Community High School District 229 Selected for Omnilert Secure Schools Grant Program

Oak Lawn Community High School District 229 is proud to announce its selection as one of 50 recipients nationwide of the Omnilert Secure Schools Grant Program. Through this highly competitive program, the District has been awarded a three-year license for Omnilert Gun Detect, an advanced AI-powered gun detection technology, at no cost.

This cutting-edge system leverages artificial intelligence to identify firearms in real-time through existing security camera infrastructure. Once a potential threat is detected, the system initiates a rapid response process—alerting school officials and law enforcement—ensuring that threats can be addressed as quickly and effectively as possible.

“We are honored to be selected for the Omnilert Secure Schools Grant,” said Dr. Shahe Bagdasarian, Superintendent of Oak Lawn Community High School District 229. “The safety of our students and staff is our highest priority. This new technology will significantly enhance our ability to respond to threats proactively, reinforcing our strong commitment to providing a safe and secure learning environment.”

The implementation of Omnilert Gun Detect aligns with the District 229’s broader security strategy, which includes a combination of physical safety measures, emergency preparedness, and mental health resources to support student well-being.

Installation and integration of the system will begin during the 2025-2026, with staff training and safety drills to ensure the technology is used effectively and responsibly.
