A passion for the arts can drive individuals to go above and beyond the normal expectations for high schoolers. For Oak Lawn Community High School students Abi Leeds and Kai McNulty, the passion led them to the Northern Illinois University Summer in the Arts Visual Art Camp in July.
These students, who have taken many art classes at OLCHS and contribute greatly to the arts program at OLCHS, chose to attend the art camp and continue learning over the summer through rigorous printmaking and photographic art classes, drawing challenges, and group activities at the camp. Leeds will bring her new knowledge and skills back to OLCHS, and McNulty is even better prepared to attend NIU in the fall.
“Abi and Kai represented OLCHS well at camp and are a great example of how OLCHS Spartans can demonstrate excellence and dedication outside of the building,” said OLCHS teacher and counselor/instructor at the camp. “They are also better connected to the university and are taking steps to prepare for the future after OLCHS. My hope is that more OLCHS students will continue to participate in camps over the summer and bring their knowledge back to Oak Lawn in the fall.”
