Records are made to be broken, and Oak Lawn Community High School’s Molly Cameron was up for the task. She set a new school record in the triple jump as she advanced to the Illinois High School Association State Finals for track and field this spring.
As Cameron was flying high, OLCHS recognized all the outstanding achievements for the spring sports season. Here’s a closer look at the awards.
In Girls Track and Field, Cameron was all-conference in the South Suburban Conference Red with her first-place finish in the high jump and was named as the team’s Most Valuable Player. Delaney Phillips was recognized as the team’s Sportsmanship Award winner.
In Boys Track and Field, Jaion Finley and Rahshid Williams were the team MVPs, and Anthony Rodriguez was the Sportsmanship winner. Meanwhile, the Spartans had some fine performances at the SSC Red meet. Gavin Rybicki took first place in pole vault. The 800-meter relay team of Ka Vaun Cade, Jayden Schlosser, Alex Soto, and Tadgh Walsh took first as well. The 1,600-meter relay team of Noah Juarez, Laith Abbasi, Isaiah Perez, and Finley brought home gold too. The junior varsity team was SSC Red champions.
In Baseball, the team MVPs were Justin Canvin and John Olejniczak while Eli Kulpinski and Josh McGlynn earned the Sportsmanship Awards. All-conference selections included Olejniczak, Canvin, Jackson Hilger, Peyton Melnik, and Jack Dempsey. The JV team won the SSC Red title.
In Softball, Kaitlyn Berkery was named the team MVP, and Teagan Krzystof and Katie Casey shared the Sportsmanship Award. All-conference selections included Krzystof, Berkery, and Aleksandria Blanco.
In Girls Soccer, Cassandra Gutierrez was the MVP, and Kamila Tobias and Jaretzy Ornelas-Ramos were the Sportsmanship Award winners. Gutierrez, Tobias, and Haydee Manriquez were all-conference selections.
In Boys Volleyball, Oisin Walsh was MVP, and Evan Rozhon and Ryan Rehacek were the Sportsmanship Award winners. Walsh and Giovanni Gonzalez were all-conference selections. The JV team earned the SSC Red Championship.
In Badminton, Madyson Lane was the MVP, and Kate Burke claimed the Sportsmanship Award. The Spartans also took home the SSC Team Sportsmanship Award.
In Boys Tennis, Isaac Bayas was the team MVP, and Rocco Santoro was the Sportsmanship Award winner.
