CASEY CAPTAINS SHIP FOR OAK LAWN SOFTBALL

The role of captain on any team is not a job to be taken lightly. For senior Katie Casey, that job began all the way back in October when she led the softball offseason workouts, and it carried all the way through the season for Oak Lawn Community High School.

In the dugout, she helped the team navigate through rough waters and cheered on solid play when it was smooth sailing. Casey also performed on the diamond as she batted .397 with four doubles, one triple, and a home run. She added 21 RBIs and played solid defense at first base.

“Katie took on the senior captain role to heart,” head coach Shawn Neubauer said. “She helped lead the softball team whether it was in offseason workouts, team stretching, or helping get the team ready to play. She was always providing positive praise during game to keep her teammates motivated even through tough times.”
