NOUN:           1.   A network of forced labor camps in the former Soviet Union.

SENTENCE: He felt he was dragooned into the bane of his existence: a ponderous gulag when in actuality it was a sacrosanct space that stupefied him into quixotic dreams.

Student Helpers – Do you like to help others?  Consider joining Student Helpers!  Our informational meeting will be held on Tuesday May 14th at 3p in the Jr/Sr lounge.  Open to all Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors.  See you there!

To: 1st Semester 2025 Driver’s Ed students: Please check your skyward email in regard to your permit test. Dates and the rules of the road study guide are included in the email. Please start studying for your test.

On Saturday, May 10th OLCHS will be hosting the 2nd annual Fire Buddies Field Day from 1 – 3pm. Bring your younger brothers and sisters out to enjoy relays, a bouncy house, face painting, tour of a fire truck, and much more. Sign up through Omella: FIRE BUDDIES FIELD DAYS. The cost to attend is only $5 and all proceeds go to support Project Fire Buddies.

We also need volunteers to help with this event. You can earn 3 service-learning hours by signing up through the service-learning calendar. See your counselor if you need help signing up.

Oak Lawn Football will host its annual Summer Kickoff event TOMORROW Wednesday, May 7th in the PAC at 5:30pm. Athletes should park in the student lot and enter the PAC through the side entrance across the street. This event includes wings, pizza, a movie, and the release of the summer camp calendar.  All participants must be registered for Football Summer Camp.

Ventra cards can be renewed for the 2024-25 school year and new Ventra cards can be purchased for $2.00 in the Business Office, Room 123.  If you’ve already purchased a card online from the OLCHS Webstore, please pick it up in the Business Office. Business Office hours are 7:30am – 3:30pm. Plan accordingly! You will not be excused from class to renew or purchase a card.

Tech Help - If you’re having trouble logging into your classes or having any other tech issues, please email iPad Support for tech assistance. If possible, include a screenshot of your issue. 

The iTeam Genius Bar is open from 7:45 am - 3:00 pm. Students can come to the Media Center for support.

Club/Team News

Creative Writing Club will have our end of the year party TODAY, 5/6, after school in the college and career center. See you there!

SADD Club - Members will gather TOMORROW Wednesday, May 7, at 3PM in Room 117 for their end-of-year celebration.

Graphic Design Club - Graphic Design club will meet TOMORROW Wednesday, May 7, in room 146 from 3-4pm. We will be having our end of year party and discuss plans for next year. Please see Mrs. Hartmann with questions.

Journalism - The Journalism Team will have an informational meeting next Friday, May 9th at 3:05 in room 366. The meeting will discuss opportunities to compete in writing events, broadcast, artistic competitions, design, photography and much more. We hope to see you there.

Dance Team - Hello Spartans! Are you interested in dancing for the school's varsity dance team? If so, we are hosting our 2025-26 dance team auditions Wednesday May 7th in the dance studio from 5:30-9pm! Please see your email for student announcements, and the flyers posted around the school for more information on how to register for try-outs. 

Girls’ Cross-Country - If you enjoy running and would like to learn more information about our summer/fall program, complete the google form Girls' Cross Country summer/fall program. Our team is like a family. The girls work together, encourage one another and treat each other like sisters. Come be a part of something special!
