Oak Lawn Community High School's Counseling Department has been recognized as an ASCA Model Program (RAMP) Certification through the American School Counseling Association. On Friday, February 28, 2025, the counselors received notice that they have officially earned the certification—an esteemed honor recognizing their commitment to a data-driven, comprehensive counseling program that supports student success. With this certification, Oak Lawn Community High School is now one of only 37 schools (and just 21 high schools) in Illinois to achieve RAMP recognition.
The RAMP process reflects the counselors’ success in implementing the ASCA National Model, demonstrating the impact of their direct and indirect services on student outcomes. Some key enhancements include: establishing an Advisory Council to increase stakeholder engagement and feedback; conducting a "Use of Time" study to analyze and optimize how counselors allocate their time for maximum impact; developing a Counseling Mission and Vision; implementing data-driven small group interventions to improve student outcomes; improving academic performance among EL sophomores with a history of failing grades; elevating academic achievement for African-American sophomores on Free/Reduced Lunch; and reducing absenteeism among targeted students with 504 plans who were disproportionately represented.
Assistant Principal Mike Sunquist said, "I am incredibly proud of our dedicated school counseling team for earning the prestigious RAMP certification from the American School Counselor Association. This recognition is a testament to their unwavering commitment to providing a comprehensive, data-driven counseling program that supports all our students' academic, social-emotional, and career development. Their hard work and dedication ensure that every student receives the guidance and resources they need to thrive. Congratulations to our outstanding counselors on this well-deserved achievement!"
