Senior Hailey Wierzgac is a fierce competitor on the court for the Oak Lawn Community High School girls volleyball team, but because of her love of the game, she does it all with a smile. That gritty determination helped lead the Spartans to a record of 11-2 in September and earned her honors as an OLCHS Athlete of the Month.
In September, she led the team with 33 blocks, slammed down 61 kills, and converted 45-percent of her attempts to earn a point. She only had 21 hitting errors in 136 attempts. She was also a unanimous selection by opposing coaches to the all-tournament team at the Spartan Classic, earning a spot as one of the Top 10 players in the 16-team tournament.
“Hailey has been a consistent offensive and defensive threat,” head coach Kathleen Miller said. “Besides her tremendous statistics, Hailey plays with pure joy, and her love for the game is evident every time she steps foot on the court.”
