OAK LAWN’S GIRLS VOLLEYBALL TEAM HEADLINES FALL SPORTS AWARDS

When looking back on the fall sports season at Oak Lawn Community High School, the girls volleyball team stole the show by recording a school-record 27 wins, grabbing the South Suburban Conference Red championship, and boasting the SSC Red Coach of the Year winner Kathleen Miller, but so many other teams performed well too. Here’s a look at the Fall Sports Awards for OLCHS.

 

In Girls Volleyball, besides all the team accolades, there was a lot of individual success as well. The team’s Co-Most Valuable players were Sinead Conroy and Amina Maali. Maeve Hassett and Hailey Wierzgac shared the Sportsmanship Award. The all-conference selections from the conference champs were Conroy, Wierzgac, Maali, Hassett, and Emma McAuliffe.

 

In Girls Cross Country, the team was awarded the SSC Red Sportsmanship Award. Individually, the Co-MVPs were Anna Driscoll and Naliyah Anderson. Julia Kurnat won the Sportsmanship Award. Illinois High School Association Sectional Qualifiers were Driscoll and Molly Sheridan. Anderson was the lone all-conference selection.

 

In Boys Soccer, the team earned the SSC Red Sportsmanship Award. David Morales was named team MVP while Evan Ryan and Cristian Morales-Reyes shared the Sportsmanship Award. Giovanni Gonzalez and Morales were both named as Illinois High School Soccer Coaches Association All-Sectional members. SSC Red all-conference selections were Morales, Gonzales, and Jamal Morad.

In Girls Swim and Dive, Mya Orozco was the team’s MVP. Noemi Castillo earned the Sportsmanship Award. All-conference players included Amelia Fudala (50-yard freestyle, 100-yard freestyle), Alessandra Gabriel (500-yard freestyle), and Orozco (100-yard breaststroke).

 

In Boys Cross Country, the team MVPs were Andrew Leon and Leo Chavez while Kyle Rzepka was the Sportsmanship Award winner. Leon was an IHSA Sectional Qualifier and an all-conference selection.

 

In Boys Golf, the team MVP was Jacob Canvin, and Christian Richter won the Sportsmanship Award. IHSA Sectional Qualifiers were Jack Westin, Canvin, and Brett Meskill. Shane Mulcahy and Westin were SSC Red all-conference golfers.

 

In Football, TJ Vrabel was named as the team’s MVP, and Emeen Hamad earned the Sportsmanship Award. All-conference selections were Vrabel, Jon Salinas, and Hayden Davis.

 

In Girls Golf, the team’s MVP was Katie Casey, and Raquel Enriquez got the Sportsmanship Award. IHSA Sectional Qualifiers were Casey and Teagan Krzystof. Krzystof was also an all-conference golfer.

 

In Girls tennis, Mia Wendt claimed the team’s MVP honor, and Avery Wessel was the Sportsmanship Award winner. Jessica Komperda took first place at second singles to earn all-conference honors.
