Senior Jake Canvin knows consistency, and for the last four years on the varsity boys golf team, he has consistently improved. So, it was not surprise that he finished off his high school career at the Illinois High School Association Sectional with a par on the 18th hole. The consistent play certainly helped him earn honors as the Oak Lawn Community High School Athlete of the Month for October.
Canvin’s nine-hole average was a 39, and he was a medalist in nine matches, amassing seven birdies along the way. He participated in the IHSA Regional and qualified to play in the sectional in back-to-back years as well.
“Jake took on a leadership role this season and has helped the younger players improve their game,” head coach Shawn Neubauer said. “He was a four-year varsity player and improved his nine-hole and 18-hole averages every year.”
