Even when things aren’t going exactly right for Oak Lawn Community High School girls swimmer Alessandra Gabriel in her individual events, somehow she finds the fortitude to still thrive in the relays.
This was the exact case at the recent Illinois High School Association Sectional girls swim meet. The individual events weren’t really going her way. However, she was able to help her relay teams place in both the 200-freestyle relay and the 400-freestyle relay.
“Alie finished her season off with grace,” said head coach Alexandra Woehlert. “Some of her individual events may not have gone exactly her way, but she was able to step it up for her team. Alie has shown what it means to be a great team captain by supporting her team and leading them to success.
“She was there for all her team members throughout the season and helped them to end the season on a great note. Alie has displayed what mental toughness and leadership truly look like.”
