MAALI ASK MORE OF SELF, TEAM TO PUSH SPARTANS VOLLEYBALL

After two years of playing on the varsity girls volleyball team at Oak Lawn Community High School, junior Amina Maali was ready to step up and play a bigger role for the team. As a result, she became a six-rotation player, she pushed herself to produce more, and she dedicated herself to elevating others.

It has been a success. Maali leads the Spartans in reception passer rating, and the Spartans are playing terrific volleyball with an eight-game winning streak. Most recently, they won the Illinois Math and Science Academy Schwartzwalder Classic title. The Spartans are 23-5 overall and 7-3 in the South Suburban Conference Red.

“Amina has expanded her role this year,” head coach Kathleen Miller said. “She communicates efficiently with her teammates and has been a consistent six-rotation player. She pushes herself and her teammates to elevate their level of play. Amina is very competitive and has contributed greatly to our team’s success.”
