Welninski Spends Winter Break Winning Canadian Hockey Tournament

Over the winter break, many high school students take a much needed departure from daily school life and recharge their educational batteries, however, Jake Welninski used his break to play hockey north of the border.

Leaving December 26, Welninski, who is a freshman, traveled to Canada with his Chicago Youth Association Bantam Major hockey team to compete in an elite youth hockey tournament. And the trip certainly paid off in a big way as his team won the Toronto Marlboros International Holiday Classic. What makes the accomplishment so unique, is that this is only the second team from the United States in the last 25 years to win the tournament with more than 40 Canadian Tier 1 teams.
