Ward Eclipses 1,000 Career Points, Leads Spartans On Court

Each week the Athletic Department selects a Spartan Athlete of the Week. The recipient for the week of January 27 is senior boys basketball player Trey Ward.

Last week, he had two huge games for the Spartans. On Wednesday at Lindblom, Ward connected on 8 of 11 three-point field goals in a tough 56-49 victory on the road. With his first three points of the game, he became just the seventh player in OLCHS history to score 1,000 points for his career.

He followed up that performance with 31 points against Evergreen Park in a 78-48 South Suburban Conference Red win at home for Paint the Gym Purple night. In that game he was 3-for-4 from three-point land and 12 of 14 at the free-throw line.

He is shooting an incredible 50 percent from three-point range for the season making 75 of his 150 attempts. The Spartans have amassed an impressive 20 wins on the season.

Other nominees for Spartan Athlete of the Week included Michael Alberts (Wrestling), Sarah Saleh (Girls Basketball), and Emily Dolan (Girls Bowling).
