When freshman Oisin Walsh was promoted to the Oak Lawn Community High School varsity boys volleyball team last year, it completely changed the makeup and identity of the team with his defensive ability in the front row.
Now a year later, Walsh has taken the necessary steps to completely change his own game to become a dominating force on the court. He is now an offensive threat, his defense at the net is even better, and he can set up teammates for hits when the situation arises. He has improved so much that he is on the Junior Volleyball Association Watch List of players in Illinois.
“With a year of club volleyball under his belt, his game has morphed into a complete game changer,” head coach Matt Hunt said. “He is a dominating force on the court. If he keeps this up in South Suburban Conference Red season, there is no doubt he can be the Player of the Year.”
Walsh currently leads the team in kills and in conference play, where he is hitting at a 33-percent clip. With Walsh’s explosion, the Spartans have made quite a splash so far this season.
