A Message from Superintendent Dr. Michael Riordan
Families,
I am writing to inform you of our plan to take an adaptive pause to our Blended Learning Model and shift to all remote learning. Beginning Monday, November 16, we will return to our Full Remote Model for the remainder of the semester.
This decision was driven by three primary factors:
- The number of students and staff on quarantine or testing positive has grown over the last two weeks and we have come to a critical point in delivering in-person instruction. For more specific information regarding our numbers you can click here. Please continue to report COVID incidents and quarantine information to our Nurses’ Office.
- The number of students choosing full remote has now grown to over 50% and the number grows more each day.
- Community metrics in our region (Region 10) have now passed a positivity rate of 14%.
Beginning on Monday, November 16th all instruction will take place remotely. This includes our targeted programs such as ILRP, Drivers Ed, tutoring, and CTE/lab courses. These programs will remain remote through at least December 4th. Our District Administrative Team will reevaluate and update our school community on Tuesday, December 1st regarding these programs. WiFi on Campus will remain open and available to students from 8:30 AM - 12:30 PM. Students can sign-up for WiFi on Campus using Arena Scheduling in Skyward.
The daily schedule will remain in place and is included here as a reminder. Additionally, previously communicated calendar changes are in effect. Please consult the calendar at www.olchs.org for the most current information.

We regret having to make this change. Our hope is that with a conscious effort by the larger community to mitigate this virus we can return to our Blended Model in early January. Please remember to avoid social settings, continue to wear a mask, and please remain socially distant this holiday season.
Sincerely,
Dr. Michael Riordan, Superintendent
Oak Lawn Community High School District 229
