Last weekend the Boys Bowling Team competed in the Illinois High School Association Regional meet. When it was over, Oak Lawn narrowly missed advancing as a team, but three individual Spartans had qualified for the sectional.
Seniors Mariano Gonzalez and Michael Majcherek along with junior Nate Moran advanced and will be bowling this weekend with a shot at going to the state meet. They will be competing at the Andrew Sectional. Other bowlers who performed well for the Spartans all season long were Julian Cruz, Russell Sheppler, Ricardo Estrada, Andy Sandoval, Jesus Sanchez, and Steven Hebel.
“The entire team gave it their all at the regional, and we just missed advancing the entire team to the sectional,” head coach Kevin Walery said. “The three guys that made it through have been working hard all year and deserve this shot to go down state.”
“Mariano has been our leader all year. Michael has really been coming on and stepping up his game in December and January. Nate was our best bowler at regionals and averaged a 198 over six games. He really put some things together the last few weeks and turned it up at the right time. It is going to be a tough sectional, but these Spartans are up for the challenge.”
