Twenty classroom educators at the elementary, middle, and high school levels received ITEEA’s Teacher Excellence Award. Outstanding technology and engineering educators, including Dan Kenny of Oak Lawn Community High School, will be honored by the International Technology and Engineering Educators Association (ITEEA) at its 83rd Annual Conference held March 22-27, 2021. Sponsored by ITEEA and Goodheart-Willcox, the Teacher Excellence Award is one of the highest honors given to technology and engineering education classroom teachers and is presented in recognition of their outstanding contributions to the profession and their students. The Teacher Excellence Award provides public recognition at the local/state through international levels.
Derek Sefcik, OLCHS CTE Department Chair said “Mr. Kenny created and implemented the first year of the Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Engineering program in the fall of 2015. He currently teaches 4 levels of PLTW at OLCHS which include Introduction to Engineering, Principles of Engineering, Civil Engineering and Architecture and Engineering Design and Development.” Mr. Sefcik went on to say, “Mr. Kenny’s students enter an environment of imagination, hands-on learning and challenges. He encourages his students to take risks, use their imagination and challenge themselves. Oak Lawn Community High School is lucky to have Mr. Kenny and the opportunities he provides for our students.”
