Stuff You Need to Know

This week is Red Ribbon Week! Red Ribbon Week is a campaign endorsed by the national SADD organization and was created by the National Parent Foundation for drug free youth. NFP is a national leader in drug prevention education & advocacy. Their mission is to lead and support our nation’s families and communities in nurturing the full potential of healthy, drug free youth.

OLCHS SADD club is promoting Red Ribbon Week to bring awareness to Alcohol and Drug prevention for teens. This week will be spirit days in honor of Red Ribbon Week. We encourage all to partake in this week's festivities. To start off our morning, here is a piece of information to know: "

The average age for first time drug usage of inhalants is about 15 years old. Today’s Red Ribbon Week theme is Character Day. Tomorrow’s theme is sports jersey day. This can include jerseys from professional teams like the Blackhawks or a jersey from your sport at OLCHS. 

Come down to Skid Row to support your fellow Spartans in this year’s production of Little Shop of Horrors! Show dates are Thursday 10/28, Friday 10/29 and Saturday 10/30 at 7 pm. Tickets are $12 and you can order online through the Clubs and Activities page or at

Tutors Needed: If you want to help other students by tutoring and earn service-learning hours, fill out this google form to be considered. Requirements include having had an A in the class you would tutor and no Ds or Fs in any class currently.

College Rep Visits

Representatives from the following schools will be visiting with Spartans this week: 
Wednesday, 10/27 – Missouri University of Science & Technology, pd. 2 and Tricoci University of Beauty Culture, pd. 4/5
Thursday, 10/28 – Millikin University, pd. 2
To attend a visit, please sign up to attend in Naviance. To do this:
1. Log into Naviance
2. Click on “Colleges” and “Colleges Home”
3. Scroll down to the bottom right, where you will see a list of college visits scheduled at OLCHS.
4. Select the visit you want to sign up for.
Registration will close one day before the start of the visit.

Athletic News

Registration for Winter 2021-2022 Sports is now OPEN!

Oak Lawn Community High School Athletics is excited to begin the winter athletic season for the 2021-2022 school year! Winter sports include Boys Bowling, Competitive Cheerleading, Competitive Dance, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Wrestling, Girls Bowling, and Boys Swim & Dive. It is extremely important that all athletes have a current physical on file with the athletic office and have registered online prior to the day of the tryout. For more information about sport specific tryout dates/times/locations, registration, and protocols, head to our athletic web site ( and click on the "Winter 2021 Sports Registration" link in the announcements.

Girls Basketball - Attention all freshmen and sophomore girls who are interested in trying out for the girls basketball team, there will be an open gym for freshmen and sophomores only on Wednesday night from 7:00-8:30 in the Spartan Gym.  Here’s a chance to work on your game before Monday’s tryouts. See you then!
