Stuff You Need to Know

WEDNESDAY morning, 10/26/22 FSCAB will be selling Krispy Krème donuts in the student cafeteria for $1.00 a donut and $10.00 for a dozen

2nd Semester Drivers Education Students - Permit testing will begin next Monday October 24th during Spartan Plus. Please check your skyward email for your invite. Please make sure to start preparing and studying for your rules of the road test. This test needs to be passed for you to be issued a permit from the State of Illinois. 

Fall/Halloween Poetry ContestThe OLCHS Spartan Creative Writing Club presents… A Fall/Halloween Poetry Contest!  Send us your original poetry about Fall or Halloween.  Entries are due TODAY Friday, October 21, 2022 @ midnight.  The prize for “Best Poem” is a $10 Amazon Gift Card and a bag of Jolly Ranchers.  Please check your student e-mail for our contest flyer with details.  Entries should be e-mailed to  Two entries per person.

Need service hours? Check out these great opportunities:

  • LOTS of helpers are needed for Halloween events at both Harnew Elementary and Columbus Manor Elementary TODAY Friday 10/21.
  • The last volunteer training for the season at the Children’s Farm is this Saturday at 9:00 am. Volunteers still needed throughout Halloween for Pumpkin Days!
  • Westside Baseball is having an open volunteer event for field maintenance on Sunday morning – so sign up required!
  • Lieb Elementary School is looking for help with Fall Family Night next Thursday 10/27
  • Hometown Elementary School is looking for help with Family Bingo next Friday 10/28

Cafeteria – Just a reminder…. You MUST have an ID in order to get breakfast and lunch from the cafeteria. If you do not have your ID with you, go to on your iPad and login with your school Google account. A QR code for the website is available near each cashier. If you receive a message that you don’t have a photo, please go to the Media Center to have a photo taken and get your ID printed.  
Tech Help - If you’re having trouble logging into your classes or having any other tech issues, please email for tech assistance. If possible, include a screen shot of your issue.

Club/Team News

Student Council - If you received an invitation to the upcoming Student Leadership Conference, please bring your completed field trip form to Mrs. Sidlow in the Media Center by October 27 @3:30pm. No late forms will be accepted. 

Theater - Mamma Mia! Here we go again! Do you love Abba? Maybe you want to watch a funny romance? Then you’re in luck! The Oak Lawn Theater program is putting on “Mamma Mia!”, and you all have a chance to win 2 free tickets! We are selling tickets everyday this week, during all lunch periods and announcing winners at the end of each lunch period. One dollar gets you 1 ticket into the raffle and five dollars gets your six chances to win! Good luck :)

Athletic News

The winter athletic season is right around the corner! Registration is now open for all students that would like to tryout for a winter sport. Winter sports include Boys Bowling, Competitive Cheerleading, Competitive Dance, Girls Basketball, Boys Basketball, Wrestling, Girls Bowling, and Boys Swim & Dive. Tryout dates for each individual program vary. Please check your email for directions on how to register, or head to the OLCHS Athletics web page for more information.

Boys Bowlers - Attention all Spartan Boys Bowlers: We are 3 days away from tryouts! Meet in the Spartan Lobby at 3:05 on Monday, 10/24/2022. We will ride the bus to Palos Lanes. Two questions: #1 Do you have an updated physical in the Athletic Office? #2 Are you registered for tryouts on 8to18? See Coach Walery in Room 28 or Coach Mueller in Room 213 with any questions.

Cheer - Tryouts for the Competitive/Basketball Cheer season will be held on Wednesday October 26th and Thursday October 27th from 3:30 to 6:00 in Gym 101. All participants must register on 8 to 18.  Questions, see Coach Vanderwarren in the district office, room 123 .  Go Spartans!!
