Stuff You Need to Know

Did you know that May is mental health awareness month? 1 in 4 people suffers from some form of mental illness.  Not all pain is physical.  Not all wounds are visible. Help break the silence and break the stigma.  In the student cafeteria this Thursday and Friday,  we are raising $ for Elyssa’s Mission, a suicide prevention program, by selling ribbon stickers. In addition, we are working on a special project for an organization called RE;ACT for Ryan.  REACT provides much needed support and mental health counseling for first responders such as firefighters, police, and paramedics. Our goal is to make 1,000 positive note cards expressing our gratitude and support for all those working in these difficult and overwhelming jobs. If you could spare a minute or two to make a note card, we would be so appreciative. Please stop by to show your support.

Following the Heroes Night Basketball game back in February between Reavis and Oak Lawn, a scholarship has been set up in the names of the two fallen police officers. One will be given out to a Reavis senior, and one to an Oak Lawn senior. The scholarship is for $1000 and we are now seeking applications. Applicants must have a 3.0 GPA or higher, planning to pursue a career in law enforcement, and extra consideration will be given to student-athletes and/or students involved in extracurricular activities. If you are interested in applying for the scholarship, applications can be picked up in the Athletic Office. Completed applications are due by Friday, May 10th.
