Stuff You Need To Know



Are you interested in a career in the Construction industry?  Curious about the progress you are seeing on the Performing Arts Center project just outside our door?  Sign up for Spartan Plus with a Professional this Friday to meet John Tondelli and Gary Drummer of Henry Bros. Construction, who will talk about the different areas of construction and building trades are available as careers.  Seats are limited, so don’t delay!


Club/Team News



Congratulations to Sophomores Nate Moran and Malek Elayyan for being named All-Conference this year for the Boys Bowling Team.  The SSC Red tournament was held over the weekend and at the Freshman/Sophomore level Nate finished 4th overall and Malek finished in 9th place overall.  


Congratulations also to Junior Julian Cruz who finished in 13th place at the Varsity Level and just missed finishing in the medals by 10 pins!   It was a great conference tournament and good luck to the Varsity team at Regionals this weekend.


The Oak Lawn Speech Team had another successful showing this past weekend, competing at the Argo Speech Tournament and taking Third Place at the Thornwood T-Shirt Tourney.

At Thornwood, Abby Moore and Jon McLawhorn were tournament champions in Dramatic Duet Acting, Moises Bello was tournament champion in Original Oration, and Marlene Favila was tournament champion in Informative Speaking. Aisling Berry was runner-up in Prose Reading, Jesenia Martinez was runner-up in Humorous  Interpretation, and Moises Bello was also runner-up in Radio Speaking.

Emily March took 5th place in Extemporaneous Speaking and Informative Speaking, Bianca Honeycutt and Jada Jackson took 5th in Humorous Duet Acting, and Mary Majcherek took 5th in Radio Speaking. Abby Moore took 6th in Special Occasion Speaking, Jon McLawhorn took 6th in Informative Speaking, and Aisling Berry and Bianca Honeycutt were finalists in Poetry Reading and Humorous Interpretation.

At Argo, Ella Moore and Emma O’Malley-Galvan took 5th place in Humorous Duet Acting. Additionally, the following students were all finalists in their individual events:

- Brianna Fandrey and Lucas Wessel

- Alexia Stang

- Cylia Srmek

- Grace Trout

Congrats to the whole team and all those who competed! The Spartans will be competing at the Saturday SmackDown Tournament this weekend at Richards High School. Break a leg!



Boys’ Track and Field. It’s time to Rise Up and start the 2018 campaign for the Boys’ Track and Field program. There will be an interest meeting Thursday, January 11th in the Little Theater after school for all boys interested in joining the program. Come be a part of a sport that showcases pure athleticism, drive, and toughness. Anyone with a desire to compete and strives to reach their fullest potential is welcome. The season starts Tuesday, January 16th.



Girls’ Track & Field. Have you ever wondered how fast you can run, how high you can jump, or how far you can throw? Well get ready, because the 2018 Girls’ Track & Field season is here! Any girls interested in joining track & field please come to a Mandatory informational meeting, Wednesday January 10th  in the Little Theatre right after school. This is a must-attend meeting if you have any interest in joining the team this year. We will discuss the season calendar, team expectations, and team policies.

Athletes currently in a winter sport see Coach Fiene by January 12th. 

The season starts January 16th, and everyone is welcome.
