Stuff You Need to Know

All Seniors…

There will be a senior meeting held in the Performing Arts Center on Tuesday, January 22 for ALL SENIORS. Cap and Gown measurements will be submitted during this meeting. We will also discuss upcoming events and dates including graduation information. Please report to the Performing Arts Center immediately after 2nd period.

Are you a freshman student already 15 years old, or a freshman student who’s 15th birthday will be before May 30th of 2019? If so, you qualify for summer school drivers education here at OLCHS. The drivers education department has 60 seats available, and you will need to register for the class with your counselors at sophomore registration. The drivers education department is going to be hosting two Spartan plus sessions at the end of January to discuss our class, so please sign up if you are interested. If you have any questions, please visit the drivers ed office, room 281 anytime before the start of the school day.

Freshmen, Sophomores, and Juniors - Are you asking “How do I sign up for the Open House Electives during Spartan Plus sections?” It’s easy! Go to Arena Scheduling and Filter by the subject, “Other” and scroll down for all the sections that start with the word “OPEN.” Then click Add next to the one you want to attend. Or you can filter by the teacher’s name. We hope to see you there!

An admissions rep from the Aveda Institute will visit OLCHS this Tuesday, 1/22 during pd. 2.  Any student interested in Cosmetology and/or Massage Therapy is invited to attend.  Juniors should sign up for the visit in Naviance, and seniors should see or email Mrs. Kenny to request a pass.

Need service hours?  This Monday, celebrate MLK Day by participating in one of many MLK Day of Service events in the area! Each year, on the third Monday in January, the MLK Day of Service is observed as a "day on, not a day off." MLK Day of Service is intended to empower individuals, strengthen communities, bridge barriers, create solutions to social problems, and move us closer to Dr. King's vision of a "Beloved Community."

Check the service learning calendar for projects in our area, including the Cook County Forest Preserve, Christ Hospital, Lake Katherine and the Community Nutrition Network. You can also search for service projects online at www.nationalservice.gov
