February 8 Henrietta Lacks was born on August 1, 1920. She was diagnosed with cancer in March of 1951 and a sample of her cells were taken without her consent. Although she never knew her cells were being used for research, her cells multiplied in the laboratory and were able to survive and reproduce unlike any other human cells. The researcher then shared them with other scientists and her cells have been involved in numerous discoveries that gave us the medicines we use today.
