Stuff You Need to Know

CINDERELLA'S CLOSET- There will be a pop-up Cinderella’s Closet after school on Wednesday, Feb 12th from 3-4pm in the Media Center.  We have so many beautiful dresses- both long and short.  Stop in and try on a few.  You’re sure to find a favorite for Prom or that special dance!
 
VALENTINE’S FEST AND POETRY CONTEST- Come Celebrate Valentine’s Fest 2020 with the Spartan Creative Writing Club!  During this special Spartan Plus enrichment Session you will enjoy many Valentine’s Day-themed activities including: cupcake decorating, sip pink lemonade, create Valentine’s, rock painting and reading/writing Valentine’s Poetry.  The event will be hosted in Room 258 on Thursday, February 13th during the full-period Spartan Plus.  The event is limited to 20 students, so please sign up today.
 
Also, the deadline for the Spartan Creative Writing Club Valentine’s Poetry Contest is quickly approaching.  The QR code to submit poems is posted on contest flyers, posted in English classes, hallways, and the student cafeteria.  All entries are due February 12th @ 3pm.  A prize will be awarded for the best poem.  Put your heart into it and send us your poem today!
 
SERVICE HOURS-
Need service hours?  There are several opportunities to volunteer this weekend:
  • Help stock shelves at the Our Lady of the Ridge Food Pantry
  • Help organize Girl Scout cookies for pickup Saturday afternoon (right here in Gym 10!)

GLOBAL SOCIETY FEST- Global Society Fest is a celebration of cultures around the world. This year, the fashion show and dance performances will be held on Thursday, February 20th. If you are interested in representing your cultural heritage through fashion, food or dance, see Mrs. Yusuf in Room 259 during Spartan Plus or after school this week to pick up the field trip form.
 
HUMAN LIBRARY- Do you have a story to tell? The Media Center is looking for you to be a book in the human library. You will receive two service hours and will meet interesting people and hear interesting stories. Applications are due today!  Details are in your email by searching 'Human Library'. 
 
MOVIE FIELD TRIP- The Media Center & Gaming Club are excited to announce an upcoming movie field trip . . . to see Sonic the HedgehogTuesday, February 25.  $10 ticket includes movie ticket, bus, popcorn, drink, fruit snack.  Permission forms available in the Media Center.      
 
FLOWER DAY SALE- Student Council is having its annual Flower Day sale on February 13th.  600 bright, colorful, beautiful flowers will be on sale during common prep in the Media Center and during all lunch periods in the student cafe.  Flowers are $2 each or 4/$5.  Buy a bunch for your favorite people! 
    
GRAD NITE- Seniors: Grad Nite tickets are on sale now! Online and in the main office. Check your email for all information and permission slips, or stop by the Media Center with any questions. 

 

Club/Team News

SCHOLASTIC BOWL- Congrats to both the JV and Varsity Scholastic Bowl teams on finishing their regular seasons in first place!  JV had an 11-1 record, while Varsity finished the regular season for the first time at an undefeated 12-0.  JV was led by Brendan Gallian with 13 tossups, Frankie Gomez with 9, John Unger with 5 and Soleil Wallack with 2.  Varsity was led by Amin Al Ashqar with 11 tossups, Marty Sheehan with 8, Jim Fetzer and Caroline Kruk with 3, and Robert Cook with 1.  Wish the team luck as they gear up for the Conference Tournament on Feb. 19th.
 
SADD- Students Against Destructive Decisions has a meeting today, February 7th. We will be working on advocating during Teen Safe Relationship Month. Come join us after school in room 108.
               
BADMINTON- There will be a badminton open gym today, February 7th from 5:30-7pm in gym 10.
