Badminton-
Congratulations to the Spartan Badminton program who swept the Reavis Rams on all three levels in their season opener. Freshman won 9-6, JV, 8-7, and Varsity won 8-7 with a standout performance by senior Cyreesa Arroyo winning her 9th singles match 21-7, 21-6 and playing with new doubles partner junior Abby Pasinski at 5th doubles winning that spot, too!
 
Scholastic Bowl-
A big congratulations to both the Varsity and JV Scholastic Bowl Teams that brought their “A” games against the SSC competition on Wednesday night. The Varsity had impressive wins over Oak Forest and Hillcrest.  The team was led by Brendan Gallian, who answered 9 correct tossup questions for the team. Also contributing highly to the wins, were the strong efforts of John Unger and Jonathan Webber, who both answered 7 correct tossup questions. The JV scholastic bowl team had wins over Tinley Park and Hillcrest. Malik Adi and Quinn Haywood scored in every match and Matthew Perry contributed a clutch answer in the win over Tinley Park.

Black History Month: Black Creators and Activists
Each day during Black History Month, the Black Student Union will share information on a topic or person. This week’s theme is Black Creators and Activists.
 
Nelson Mandela – Nelson Mandela was South Africa’s first Black President from 1994 to 1999, and in 1993 he was awarded the Nobel Peace prize for his work as a civil rights activist. He joined the African National Congress (ANC) and he also co-founded the ANC Youth League. He is known for promoting a message of forgiveness and equality. He encouraged nonviolent and peaceful protest against apartheid and the South African government. Senior Gear-The Senior Class Advisory Board (SCAB) would like to offer the opportunity to celebrate their senior status with senior gear: hoodies, sweats, t-shirts, a windbreaker, and this year, a mask.

Valentine's Day/Spring Poetry ContestThe OLCHS Spartan Creative Writing Club presents… A Valentine’s Day/Spring Poetry Contest!  Send us your original poetry related to Valentine’s Day/Love or the upcoming Spring season.  Entries are due by Monday, February 8, 2021.  The prize for “Best Poem” is a $10 Amazon Gift Card and a bag of Jolly Ranchers.  The winner will be announced February 12th.  Please check your student e-mail for our contest flyer with details and links to submit your poems.  One entry per person.
