Stuff You Need to Know

Each day during Black History Month, the Black Student Union will share information about an individual who has made significant contributions to American history and culture.

February 2 Chadwick Boseman, born November 29th, 1976, was an American actor from South Carolina who most people know for his role as T’Challa in the film Black Panther. Boseman’s work opened doors for the Black community and his legacy provides powerful stories that will be learned from and inspire many. He encouraged and inspired all while privately suffering from cancer which later caused his death on August 28th, 2020.

JUNIORS – The SAT is a little over 10 weeks away. If you want to improve your score and do well on this college entrance exam, come to Spartan Plus TOMORROW Thursday in room 36 with Mrs. Szala to learn ways to prepare for the SAT. Sign up through Skyward.

Do you like to travel?  How would you like a job that allows you to fly to places like Florida, California, Arizona, and Texas?  Jobs in aviation are in demand.  A Southwest Airlines representative will be here TOMORROW Thursday, February 2nd to talk about jobs like pilot, flight attendant, and airport operations.  Sign up in Spartan Plus.

Cafeteria – Just a reminder…. You MUST have an ID in order to get breakfast and lunch from the cafeteria. If you do not have your ID with you, go to myid.olchs.org on your iPad and login with your school Google account. A QR code for the myid.olchs.org website is available near each cashier. If you receive a message that you don’t have a photo, please go to the Media Center to have a photo taken and get your ID printed.  
 
Tech Help - If you’re having trouble logging into your classes or having any other tech issues, please email ipadsupport@olchs.org for tech assistance. If possible, include a screen shot of your issue.

Club/Team News

Choir - Anyone interested in trying out what choir is like for an elective option for next year, please come to Bring-A-Friend Day, Monday February 6th during Spartan Plus room 104! You'll have the opportunity to sing in a large group and experience what choir can be like! Bring someone with you for some extra support and fun! This is also a great opportunity to ask about any of our music classes and get to hear from students who are in our classes and what their experiences have been like! Hope to see you there!

Gaming Club - Are you a gamer? The competitive gaming team is looking for players to compete in the spring season and IHSA playoffs.

The competitive team consists of the following games. 

  • Rocket League - 3 person team
  • Mario Kart 8 Deluxe - 4 person team
  • Super Smash Bro Crew Battle - 5 person team
  • NBA2k - 2 person (compete individually)
  • FIFA - 2 person (compete individually)
  • Smash Bro Solo - 2 person (compete individually

Please email Mrs. Meyers if you are interested in competing or stop by the Media Center. Each student can only compete in one game.

Theater - Are you interested in building, painting, using theatre technology, or just want to join a welcoming community? Then OLTP crew is the place for you! Join us after school in the PAC on Tuesday and Thursdays! No experience necessary! Can’t wait to build a connection with you soon!

Athletic News

Baseball - On Monday, February 13th, there will be a meeting after school for all students interested in baseball. The meeting will be in r. 27 at 3:10. If you are in a winter sport and cannot attend, please see Coach Gerny during Spartan Plus before Feb. 13. Thank you.
 
Girls Softball - Preseason softball is currently taking place for all girls interested in playing softball this spring.  The team meets after school on Mondays and before school on Wednesdays.  See Coach Neubauer in room 241 for more details.
