Scholastic Bowl- The Varsity Scholastic Bowl team swept the competition by beating Reavis, Bremen, and TF North on Wednesday night. The team secured a 7-5 record in the SSC and plans to make some noise at conference and sectionals. The great team effort was led by Sophomore Brendan Gallian with 14 tossups and Freshmen Malik Adi getting 11 tossups in his Varsity debut.  Other outstanding performance were had by John Unger and Yusra Abdelrahman with 7 tossups each. The JV Scholastic Bowl finished the regular season with a record of 6-6 by defeating Reavis and TF North last night. Quinn Haywood led the charge with 12 tossups and Matthew Perry had a strong showing with 9 tossups. Timothy Weber came in clutch as he answered a crucial tossup to tie Bremen before the Spartans lost in heartbreaking fashion in the final questions.
 
Valentine's Day/Spring Poetry Contest Winner- Congratulations to the first place winner of our Valentine’s Day/Spring Poetry Contest, Katie Prusa with her heartfelt poem “’So Young, yet so Old”.  Katie will receive a $10.00 Amazon Gift Card and a Bag of Jolly Ranchers.  Thank you to everyone who shared their very awesome poems with us for the contest.  Congratulations again Katie on your excellent poem!

Black History Month: Black Achievement
Each day during Black History Month, the Black Student Union will share information on a topic or person. This week’s theme is Black Achievement.
 
Shirley Chisholm became the first Black congresswoman in 1968. Chisholm is known for advocating for gender and racial equality. She is also known for co-founding the National Women’s Political Caucus in 1971 and became the first black woman to run for president of the United States in 1972.
 
Senior Gear-The Senior Class Advisory Board (SCAB) would like to offer the opportunity to celebrate their senior status with senior gear: hoodies, sweats, t-shirts, a windbreaker, and this year, a mask.

Club/Team News

Anime Sci-Fi Club- Anime Sci-Fi Club will meet on Thursday from 3-4pm in the Media Center. All are welcome!
 
Girls Volleyball- Girls Volleyball will be hosting open gym on SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 14th from 9:30 – 11am. Please make sure you are registered on 8 to 18 if you plan on coming. If you have any questions please email Coach Mueller at lmueller@olchs.org. See you Sunday!
