Speed is an ability not every athlete is blessed with having. However, speed without a work ethic and dedication lays idle as an untapped resource. For Oak Lawn Community High School freshman Rahshid Williams, speed is only the beginning for his rise to the bigtime in track and field. He’s putting it all together.

Although he is only a freshman, Williams started the year on the varsity team from the very beginning, and now he is elevating himself as one of the leaders on the team. He will run and jump in the South Suburban Conference Red meet tonight and try to show that his hard work is paying off.

“Rahshid has stepped up as a leader on the varsity level,” said head coach John Jensen. “He has focused mainly on the hurdles and long jump this season but can run any sprint event. Rahshid is one of the hardest workers on the team and has been a member of the varsity team since Day 1. Rahshid’s work ethic and determination has all of his coaches excited and the conference worried about him.”
