The math department recently welcomed a new teacher: Sheila Ryan. Sheila teaches AP Statistics, Geometry, and Intermediate Algebra. Sheila attended Northwestern University as an undergraduate where she majored in math and earned her Master’s degree from UIC in secondary math education. Sheila taught at Noble Street Charter School for twelve years and at a Catholic school in New York City for three years. She coached a team in the City of Chicago Math League as well.
Sheila is married with two children, six-year old Johanna and four-year old Patrick. She loves to play piano and has been an accompanist for over twenty years.
After spending so much time in one school, Sheila is eager to see different methods and ways to approach education. She is excited about the many course and extracurricular offerings and looks forward to learning from the experienced staff of Oak Lawn Community High School. She felt incredibly welcomed by the community and said the math department and staff have been nothing but kind, warm, and helpful during her transition.
