Oak Lawn Community High School students Tae Smoczynski, Vanessa Cruz, Fay Galvan, Eli O’Grady, and Grace Tynski won Scholastic Art and Writing Awards.

The Scholastic Art and Writing Awards program is a nationally recognized competition in which students submit their original works. Students can win gold and silver keys or honorable mentions and move on to compete at the national level if they win a gold key. Students’ work is on display at Downers Grove North High School and the well-attended opening was on Sunday, January 29th.

Tae Smoczynski earned a gold key in digital artwork; Vanessa Cruz earned a silver key in mixed media; Fay Galvan earned a gold key in editorial cartoons; Eli O’Grady earned honorable mentions in photography and drawing/illustration; and Grace Tynski earned two gold keys in writing.

Art teacher Ailysih Cooper said, “Winning a Scholastic Award is an incredible honor, and participation in the program shows dedication and a willingness to put oneself out there, bravely, and stand behind their creations. The OLCHS art department is so proud of our students!”
