National Honor Society, along with the entire school community, is collecting bottled water to assist the victims of Hurricane Harvey in Houston. Bottled water can be dropped off September 6 through September 18 in front of the Little Theater between 7:45 and 8:30 a.m. The doors at the end of that hallway will also be open for members of the Oak Lawn community to drop off bottled water as well.
To incentivize the effort, NHS organized contests. The Class Battle of the Bottles, which includes the freshman, sophomore, junior and senior classes, is the first contest. The class with the most donations will receive a free dessert in the café. The Advisory class with the most donations will receive a pizza party from NHS. Every community member who donates a pack of bottled water will receive a free ticket to the 9/15 home football game vs. Eisenhower. The top five individual donors will receive a free ticket to the NHS Homecoming Dance. Finally, the football team and other fall programs will also donate water as a challenge to their teams. For example, the football team will donate 3 cases per touchdown scored at the next game.
NHS President Adem Osmani said, “We were aware of the devastation in the Houston, Texas area and decided it was our responsibility to provide whatever help we could to the victims.”
