OLCHS prepares for its annual homecoming spirit week by announcing its theme: Spartans in Candyland.
In preparation, students will vote for the court which is comprised of outstanding juniors and seniors nominated by sports teams and extracurricular clubs. Students will also decorate doors and windows and get into the spirit each day beginning Friday, September 14, Flashback Friday, when everyone is encouraged to wear Homecoming shirts from the past.
Starting Monday, September 17, 2018, Student Council planned a busy, fun week filled with spirit-themed days and activities culminating with the football game and dance. On Monday, Spartans are encouraged to "Tootsie Roll Outta of Bed" and come to school in their pajamas. On Tuesday, the "Clash of the Spartans" will take place at the pep assembly, when each class will shout loud and proud to prove they are the most spirited. Fall sports teams, extracurricular clubs, the Homecoming court, and Grand Marshals John Robinson and Kelly Rumel, both retiring teachers, will be highlighted during the pep assembly. On Wednesday, students will hula through the day in their "Hawaiian Punch Day" garb. On Thursday, students will light up the day while they "Taste the Neon Rainbow". The Homecoming parade will kick off at 6:30 p.m. down Austin Avenue followed by the pep rally and fireworks at Napleton Field on the OLCHS campus. On Friday, all Spartans will wear green to show their Spartan PRIDE and root on the varsity football team as they take on the Evergreen Park Mustangs. JV will kick off at 5:00 p.m. and the Varsity game will begin at 7:00 p.m.
The Homecoming dance will take place on Saturday, September 22 between 7:00 and 10:00 p.m. in the Spartan Gym. Tickets are $15 in advance on Monday and Tuesday, and $20 on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
Parents, alumni and community members are welcome to attend the parade, pep rally and football games to cheer on the OLCHS Spartans.
