Spartans Make the Most of Shortened Winter Sports Season

Although it may have been a shortened season and it may not have looked like it usually does, the high school winter sports season came and went but not without many shining moments for Oak Lawn Community High School athletes. And topping the list of achievements was the girls basketball team, who won the South Suburban Conference Red championship. Here’s a look at the great things Spartans did throughout the winter months.
 
While the girls basketball team took home the championship trophy, junior Mia Kennelly also found individual glory in earning the SSC Red Player of the Year honors. She was also name as an all-conference player along with Katelyn Dillon, Carolyn Soukouna, and Cynthia Nunez. Emma McGrath was special mention all-conference. Teamwise, Kennelly was named as the team’s Most Valuable Player and McGrath earned the Sportsmanship Award.
 
Boys swimming and diving certainly excelled this winter as well with Jeremy Gravelle earning all-conference honors in diving, and the 200-yard medley relay team of Michal Chowaniec, Trevor Hartmann, Dillon Siert, and Raymond Lomax along with individual Lucas Fritz in the 100-yard butterfly claimed all-conference distinction as well. Gravelle was named as the team’s MVP, and Fritz won the Sportsmanship Award.
 
In boys basketball, Rafael Bou, Rodney Washington, and Nicco Reyes all earned all-conference honors, while John McGowan claimed Special Mention honors. Bou, Washington and Ryan Kennelly shared team MVP honors, and Hussam Sharfi was named the Sportsmanship Award winner.
 
In competitive dance, Adriana Hall and Annette Macias were named to the all-conference team. Hall took home the team MVP honors, while Aaliyah Cook-Hill was the Sportsmanship Award winner.
In competitive cheer, Bianca Bafia and Emily Mikos were named as All-SSC members. Bafia and Mikos shared team MVP honors, and Alma Gomez and Anisa Ramos shared the Sportsmanship Award.
 
In boys bowling, Samuel Bergamo was named to the all-conference team. Steven Hebel claimed the team MVP honors, while Nathan Strang was named as the Sportsmanship Award winner.
 
In girls bowling, Caitlyn Sierzega won the team MVP honor, and Alexandria Deangeles won the Sportsmanship Award.
 
In badminton, Aneta Dzielska was the team MVP, and Monaya Ali won the Sportsmanship Award.
