Trailing rival Reavis by 73 pins after game one on Thursday, things didn’t look too bright for the Oak Lawn Community High School boys bowling team. However, the Spartans rallied in game two and shot an astronomical 1,283 to defeat the Rams, 2,324-2149. The huge game of 1,283 set an OLCHS single-game record and according to the Illinois High School Association website, it was the third highest single-game team total in Illinois state history.
In game two Ramiro Garcia led the way bowling a 273. He was followed by Steven Hebel with a 259 and Domas Rasymas with a 257. Logan Wendt and Sam Bergamo each bowled a 247. It was an incredible accomplishment. At one point each bowler had six to seven strikes in a row.
“It was an amazing night for the Spartans,” head coach Kevin Walery said. “Everyone was throwing strikes and having fun. It was a total team effort.”
The victory improved their overall record to 9-1 and their record in the South Suburban Conference to 7-0. The Spartans head to the Oak Forest Invitational this weekend.
