Having one of the most successful seasons in school history, boys’ soccer certainly made some headlines this fall. While this team and girls’ volleyball both earned South Suburban Conference Red championships, all of the fall sports teams were recently recognized at the sports award ceremony. Here’s a closer look at the fall season.
Boys’ Soccer went undefeated in the regular season and earned a conference title as the team was led by SSC Red Player of the Year Mohammad Farraj. Farraj shared team Most Valuable Player honors with Giovanni Barragan. Michael Ciezczak was voted as the Sportsmanship Award winner. All-conference selections included Farraj, Barragan, Adam Baniewicz, Matthew Barrera, Sadiq Mohamed and Michal Szaflarski. Cody Figus was honorable mention all-conference. Barragan also earned Southtown/Tribune Player of the Month honors for September with outstanding tournament play.
The Girls’ Volleyball team also claimed a conference crown and was led by SSC Red Player of the Year Allison Yacko. Yacko shared team MVP honors with Camryn Landingham, while Sydney Janik got the Sportsmanship Award. All-conference selections included Yacko, Landingham, Amanda Bulow, Taylor Bulow and Alexa Lopez. As a team, the Spartans were chosen by the conference coaches as the SSC Team Sportsmanship Award winning club.
In Boys’ Cross Country, Joshua Rios was chosen as team MVP and Alfred Agapito was the Sportsmanship Award winner. Rios and Diego Arana both qualified for the Illinois High School Association Sectional meet. In addition, Rios earned all-conference recognition.
In Girls’ Cross Country, Tasneem Jaber was selected as the team MVP and Jade Ryerson was the Sportsmanship Award winner. Jaber, Erika Ruiz and Jessica Sciaky all qualified for the IHSA Sectional, and Jaber an All-SSC Red selection.
In Boys’ Golf, Christopher Dunne was chosen as the Team MVP and Michael Rollberg was the Sportsmanship Award winner. Dunne was an all-conference selection as well. The team earned the SSC Team Sportsmanship Award too.
In Football, Kyle McNamara and Lewis Radosevich shared team MVP honors, while Peter Knapp was the Sportsmanship Award winner. McNamara, Radosevich and Jabari Clark each earned all-conference nods. Adnane Laanati and Derek Gonsch were honorable mention all-conference selections.
In Girls’ Swimming, Eleanor Featherstone was the team MVP and Jenna Cipriani was the Sportsmanship selection.
In Girls’ Tennis, Yesenia Saldivar was the team MVP and Emma Palhegyi was the Sportsmanship Award winner.
