Oak Lawn Community High School sophomore Sammantha Carmolinga was named The Youth of the Year for the Boys and Girls Clubs of Chicago! Sammantha is a club member from the True Value Boys & Girls Club which is in the heart of the Little Village Community. The Youth of the Year is a premier leadership and recognition effort to foster a new generation of leaders, fully prepared to live and lead in a diverse, global and integrated world economy. Sammantha now heads (virtually) to the State level competition which is on the road map to get to the National competition.
When asked about the award, Sammantha said “I am honored to represent the Boys & Girls Club of Chicago.” She went on to say, “Use your struggles as motivation to be better and not as an excuse to be less.”
Dr. Jeana Lietz, Principal of Oak Lawn Community High School said, “Sammantha’s work in the community and in her academics is a perfect example of what we talk about with our Spartan “PRIDE” acronym: Personal Responsibility, Respect, Integrity, Dedication and Excellence. We are amazed by her accomplishments and proud to call her a Spartan.”
