Reyes Takes Charge For Spartans With Emotion, Defense, Sharp Shooting

Besides thriving on the defensive end, Reyes has come to life offensively as well. In ten January games for the Spartans, he shot 37 percent from three-point land, averaged 7.5 points, four rebounds, two assists, and 1.5 steals per game. He led Oak Lawn to an impressive 8-2 record in the month. For these accomplishments, Reyes was named as the Spartan Athlete of the Month.
“Nicco is our emotional leader and a team captain,” head coach Jason Rhodes said. “He leads our team in charges taken and is one of the toughest players I’ve ever coached. He also does about a million little things to help us win games that don’t show up in a box score, including often frustrating our opponent’s best offensive player with his in-your-face defense. He has been playing some excellent basketball for our team, and we clinched the first boys basketball South Suburban Conference Red championship in 39 years.”
