Osmani Plays Above Rim To Reach Rare Air In Spartan Hoops Record Book

Each week the Athletic Department selects a Spartan Athlete of the Week. The recipient for the week of January 14 is junior boys basketball player Sami Osmani.

Last week, Osmani scored 22 points on Friday night in a loss at crosstown rival Richards. All game he drove the lane and scored on a variety of finishes at the rim. Then, he scored 29 points and ripped four steals in a Saturday afternoon victory over visiting Chicago Ellison.

Osmani is averaging 22.9 points per game this season, and he crossed the 1,000 career-point threshold this week against Longwood. He has 1,018 points. He is the sixth player in the program’s history to reach that level as he joins former Spartans CJ Kupec (1,377), Don Hackstock (1,279), Rashad Johnson (1,086), Bob Collier (1,080), and Keith Libert (1,059).

Other nominees for Spartan Athlete of the Week included Mariano Gonzalez (Boys Bowling), Jordan Sprycha (Wrestling), and Jessica Sauerwein (Girls Bowling).
