The Oak Lawn Community High School girls track team went into last week’s South Suburban Conference Red meet not really knowing how it would do. After some strong performances and a few setbacks, the Spartans finished fourth. Shepard won the meet with 148 points, Argo was second with 94, Eisenhower was third with 86, and Oak Lawn finished with 84 points.
“Overall, our conference meet was a success,” head coach Brian Fiene said. “We are losing four seniors, who helped make this conference meet competitive, but with a young team, we are looking forward to the possibilities of next season.”
Madison Ryan and Allyson Fernandez finished one, two in the pole vault. Ryan cleared 2.59 meters, while Fernandez cleared 2.13. Vanessa Carr took fourth in the 100-meter hurdles in a time of :18.44, fifth in long jump (4.66 meters), and fourth in triple jump (10.43 meters). Teammate Molly Cameron finished fifth in the triple jump (10.37 meters).
Aniya Seeley-Williams took second in 100-meter dash in :12.92, and fellow Spartan Bryana Dority took fifth in a time of :13.36. Seeley-Williams also took fifth in the 200 with a time of :28.02. Victoria Niton was second in the high jump, clearing 1.42 meters. In the 400 Lamia Quinones finished second in a time of 1:05.73, and Briana Torres was fifth in 1:07.28.
Salsabeel Awwad finished second in the 1,600 with a time of 5:57.68. In the 3,200 Natalia Cetera earned fourth place in 14:17.11. Mia Kennelly took fourth in the shot put, throwing 10.04 meters and fifth in the discus with a toss of 27.23 meters.
The relay teams had their ups and downs. The 1,600-relay team of Torres, Annie McGrath, Awwad, and Quinones finished in third with a time of 4:36.66. The 800-relay team of Seeley-Williams, Emily Mikos, Carr, and Fernandez took fifth with a time of 1:56.32. However, the 400-relay team of Seeley-Williams, Mikos, Molly Cameron, and Fernandez finished sixth in :53.56. The 3,200-relay team was disqualified after having trouble with the baton exchange.
The junior varsity team finished second in the SSC Red behind Reavis, 154-111. There were some solid performances for the Spartans’ junior varsity team as the 3,200-meter relay team of Olivia Bansley, Jacquenline Canales, Lindsay Acermo and Lily Butler took first with a time of 11:28.59. Anna Driscoll took second in the 3,200 with a time of 15:43.41.
In the 800 Lily Butler was second in a time of 2:52.00, and Bansley was fourth in 2:59.19. Bansley was fourth in the 300 hurdles in a time of 1:01.95.
The 800-relay team of Raquel Eriquez, Canales, Christina Ho, and Sinead Conroy was fourth in 2:05.25. Raliyeh Washington took second in the 400 with a time of 1:11.64. Yasmin Ejaidi and Acermo were 415 in the 1,600 with respective times of 7:05.78 and 7:07.17. Conroy and Ho were 5-6 in the 200 with times of :31.54 and :31.60.
The 1,600-relay team of Washington, Canales, Bansley, and Butler took first with a time of 4:50.59. Conroy won the high jump, clearing 1.37 meters. Eriquez won the pole vault by clearing 1.68 meters. Jaylynn Thomas was third in shot put (8.53 meters) and Delaney Phillips was fifth (8.29 meters). Phillips and Conroy finished 3-4 in discus. Phillips threw it 25.72 meters and Conroy hit 22.45 meters.
