OLCHS Student Leaders Get Motivated

Over 110 student leaders attended the annual Student Leadership Conference on November 9, 2017.  This year’s theme was “Decisions Determine Destiny.”

All club presidents and vice-presidents, varsity team captains, select members of Student Council & National Honor Society, and Freshmen Academy students were invited to the conference.  Students had the opportunity to sharpen their leadership skills by participating in numerous small group discussions and activities. Sam Glenn, commonly known as "The Attitude Guy," was a special motivational speaker for the event at an all-school assembly.  After making the audience laugh and showing off his daft T-Rex impression, Sam stressed the importance of attitude and motivation in today’s leaders.

Conference attendees also earned 1.5 hours of community service at their choice of various locations.  Projects included collecting Hines VA Hospital donations, leaf raking in local yards, Oak Lawn Public Library volunteering, making blankets for Project Linus, doing Random Acts of Kindness in downtown Oak Lawn, participating in a social media forum, creating hearts for Stuffed Love, and honoring active military with the VFW Stars Project.

The annual student leadership conference is sponsored by Student Council and National Honor Society.  Event chaperones included Jennifer Clark, Eileen Jones, Kelly Kenny, Jeana Lietz, Janet Meyers, Jessica Nickless, Michael Riordan, Jennifer Sidlow and Marcus Wargin.
