In the sport of cheerleading, the smallest error can make all the difference between a successful routine and a near miss. So, when the Oak Lawn Community High School cheerleaders performed a zero-deduction routine last Sunday at the Illinois Cheerleading Coaches Association Invitational at Marian Catholic, it did indeed make all the difference.

After scoring in the high 80s with no deductions, the Spartans brought home first-place hardware and qualified for the ICCA Championships to be held on Jan. 8-9 in the Springfield Convention Center in Springfield, Ill. The 15-member squad will give it their best shot to build on this great accomplishment.

“The girls hit the mat with determination, confidence, and put everything they had into the routine,” head coach Maria Vanderwarren said. “The girls have been working extremely hard and are dedicated to making this year one of the best. They are examples of true Spartan Pride. I am beyond proud of these ladies and am honored to be their coach.”
