    Athletes Honored For Accomplishments in Fall Athletics

    Recently, OLCHS held its fall sports awards banquet to honor and recognize the athletes for their accomplishments in athletics. And it was the Boys and Girls cross country teams that really got the 2018-19 school year off and running by both qualifying for the Illinois High School Association Sectional meets as whole teams. The girls swim and dive coach Forrest Wagner was also recognized as the South Suburban Conference Coach of the Year.

The Oak Lawn Police Department is actively investigating the incident. The School Administration is awaiting direction from the Police Department regarding the credibility of the threat.     2018-19 Budget Adopted

    Illinois School Districts must adopt an annual budget by the end of the first quarter of the fiscal year. The District 229 Board of Education adopted the 2018-19 Budget on September 19, 2018. By law (105 ILCS 5/17-1.2), parents/guardians of the school district’s students must be notified of the budget’s availability. The budget document can be viewed from the school’s website. Questions regarding the budget should be directed to Assistant Superintendent Joseph McCurdy, 708/424-5200.

    Cross Countries Service Group On A Mission To Build A Hospital Overseas

    Cross Countries is a student-led service group. It was established in 2004. Each member has a strong desire to make the world a better place in ways that go beyond helping their local community. The club has raised over $225,000 to help fund mission trips overseas for compassionate students. All of the money collected has contributed to the construction of rural hospitals in both Kenya and Bolivia.

    Each week the Athletic Department and the Spartan Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) selects a Spartan Athlete of the Week. The recipient for the week of October 16 is senior girls cross country runner Ashley Lizak. She continued the trend of dropping her time last Saturday at the Illinois High School Association Regional meet and finished the three-mile course in 20:32. This was 46 seconds faster than her time just a couple of weeks ago.

    Michaels Qualifies For Prestigious Illinois Top Times Meet

    Each week the Athletic Department and the Spartan Athlete Leadership Team (SALT) selects a Spartan Athlete of the Week. The recipient for the week of March 20 is senior boys’ track and field athlete Patrick Michaels. Recently, Michaels qualified for the very prestigious Illinois Top Times meet at Illinois Wesleyan University in the shot put. This meet only takes the top 12 ranked athletes in the shot put event. Many people consider this the “indoor state meet.”

As the girls' bowling team competed at the Illinois High School Association State Tournament last Friday in Rockford, Hebel proved to be a formidable force on the lanes and averaged 191 pins to advance to the second and final day of competition.

    Tonight’s Homecoming Parade and fireworks display have been cancelled because of the weather forecast; however, in lieu of the parade, Student Council is hosting a Homecoming Celebration at 6:00 p.m. in the Spartan Gym. The celebration includes games, free pizza, prizes, and recognition for best costumes and most spirited students. Tonight’s Pep Rally will start at 7:00 p.m. in the Spartan Gym.
