Each week the Athletic Department selects a Spartan Athlete of the Week. The recipient for the week of November 24 is senior boys basketball player Sami Osmani.
During the first four games of the high school basketball season in the Spartan-Ram Classic, Osmani averaged 23 points per game, including 36 in the championship tilt against St. Laurence, and led the Spartans to the tournament championship. It was the first time in the six-year history of the tournament that Oak Lawn won the title.
He opened the title game with a 20-point outburst in the first quarter, and Oak Lawn never looked back on its way to taking home the hardware. Osmani was named as the tournament’s Most Valuable Player. He shot 58 percent from the floor, 90 percent from the free-throw line, and 38 percent from three-point range.
Other nominees for Spartan Athlete of the Week included Ramiro Garcia (Boys Bowling) and Marcel Bitner (Wrestling).
