Music Idea Grows Into Pop Group

What started as a seed of an idea by the electric guitar ensemble has blossomed into a recording group.  The Oak Lawn Community High School electric guitar ensemble was driving home from Columbia College's Deep Dish Music Festival when the crew started talking about creating a pop group. They wanted to be in charge of picking the song, rehearsing, and recording. Everyone went home and learned their parts by listening to the song and practicing. The group met several times and changed the focus to become a recording group.
The group has progressed, hosting an audition in the fall of 2020. The student musicians picked a song, recorded their instruments at home, and taught themselves all of the parts. The parts were put together in post-production and the result was truly fantastic. The song, in addition to two others, was submitted to the virtual Deep Dish Music Festival.
Bob Habersat, director of the group and OLCHS music teacher said “These students are doing pro work and I couldn’t be more proud of them.”
Student musicians include: Theresa Tenn, lead vocals; Olha Huska and Tori Prause, background vocals; Madison Martin, acoustic guitar; Dan McLawhorn, electric guitar; James Walsh, bass; Emma O’Malley Galvan, drums; Cristian Zavala, shaker; and Victoria Hartin, claps.
