Media Center Celebrates Family Reading Night

Family-Reading-Night

The Media Center hosted its 6th Annual Family Reading Night on November 29, 2018.

Students, staff, parents, and community members (all members of the Spartan Family!) attended the evening book club. There were discussions and activities based around the popular novel Goodbye Days by Jeff Zentner.  The novel is a heartbreaking and sometimes humorous story centering around a teen who lost his three best friends in a texting and driving accident.

Family Reading Night is in conjunction with Illinois Reads, a statewide campaign to promote reading for all Illinois citizens created under the auspices of the Illinois Reading Council. Illinois Reads focuses on reading in school, as well as at home. Residents across the state partake in various family literacy nights.

The Media Center hosts three after school book clubs each school year.  The next will be in April during Teen Tech Week.

Participating staff members included Eileen Jones, Kelly Kenny, Lauren May, and Jennifer Sidlow. Izabel Gronski, Young Adult Librarian at the Oak Lawn Public Library, also collaborated on the event with OLCHS.
